Four Wheel Downhill Racing

The primary reason for launching this club is to give wheelchair users, along with able-bodied MTB riders, the opportunity to enjoy the thrills of off-road downhill 4 wheel mountain bike riding, promoting it as an integrated sport nationwide.

By raising awareness, we are looking to drum up a great deal of interest in this new activity, thereby creating a vibrant and inclusive MTB racing scene here in the UK. We are very enthusiastic about this project, and have already been in touch with various organisations, who have all reacted very positively to these new bespoke downhill 4 wheel mountain bikes, the integrated racing scene and the club's ambitions.

Our main aim now is to recruit more people to the ROUGH RIDERZ club.
We want to build up our mailing list of members and keep you all informed of developments within the club and the sport. The club works closely with the suppliers of downhill four wheel mountain bikes, so we also are able to provide more detailed information about buying your own machine, air-freight costs, importation arrangements, product specification and availability, etc.

We can even help advise you on how to obtain possible financial assistance with your purchase, if required.

We want to start a fully inclusive 'downhill MTB racing community' here in the UK, to help us to spread the knowledge and different experiences of the various people involved. As our membership grows we aim to create enough interest to justify dialogue with the various organisations necessary for the development of more accessible fourcross friendly sites.

We also want them to adapt more of the existing trails, thereby
providing the accessibility for all to enjoy some serious downhill MTB thrills. We will also share information on things such as good UK trails available, new UK trails opening, good foreign locations and/or holidays, competition events and other news.

This club has been formed for the benefit of all members, with a long-term ambition to eventually forming our own fully sponsored British team. We also want to find enough funding to enable us to invest in some spare bikes and other equipment, so the club can offer 'taster days' for newcomers to the sport. We want to encourage any riders who are interested in this project to join the club and register on our forum... both able-bodied and disabled people are welcome, anybody at all who wants to get involved.

Rough Riderz founder member Phil Hall visited the Canaries in April to check the accessibility of different trails available for MTB enthusiasts... So, coming soon you'll find a full report on several trails/locations that are suitable for both 2 and 4 wheel riders. This trip was organised in conjunction with a visit to Bikepark Tenerife, where we found plenty of other like-minded bikers. We helped to advise them on layout and track design to create a 'fully accessible' MTB facility, with 3 different routes already planned, and partly completed. Also, we must say a big thank you to Matt and Miriam, Manu, Bruno, Zeno and everyone else involved in the success of our first European tour... Yeeeeaaaaahhhhh!!!
