Extreme fun is what these bikes are all about. Fourcross is an ideal sport for both able bodied and disabled people who have a lust for real excitement and adventure, and meeting other people with the need for speed.
If you're looking for some insane fun in your free time then you could do worse than register with us. These unique new mountain bikes truly are ‘the ultimate off-road experience’. Perfect for anybody who would like nothing more than to throw themselves down steep, muddy tracks on four wheels. Gravity never felt so good!
Thirty-plus miles per hour thrills on mountain trails… for wheelchair users? Cutting-edge mountain bike technology helps create unique vehicles that carry downhill racers across rough and rugged terrain. Within seconds from the start of a descent, they are hurtling down the hills so fast that you must use your brakes to stay in control. Careening around curves, bouncing over bumps and zooming down the straight stretches, they can cover a few miles downhill in just a few minutes.
Four wheel mountain bikes are used largely but not exclusively by disabled riders. They cater for persons of all ages with varying disabilities. In order to be able to control the bikes users need to have use of the arms and hands. The bikes are primarily designed to be gravity powered on downhill trails, however they can be self propelled on flat ground and shallow gradients in the same way as a normal manually propelled wheelchair. Riders with good upper body strength and fitness can self propel on suitable short cross country routes. Four wheel bikes can therefore be used on a variety of different types of trail including;
- Pure downhill
- Freeride
- Short XC
- Certain downhill sections of longer XC routes
(with forest road access)
These high-tech four wheel mountain bikes, normally built by hand, aren't yet very well known within the MTB community, but there are a few different models that have been designed already out there!
First built in the States in 1997, the 'R-One Fourcross' bike (pictured top-right) has been totally updated since it's creation.
The last four years of development and improvement at R-One, with the help of professional riders, has now created an incredible riding experience. Lots of tweaks and changes were made, with an increased tube wall thickness, better frame flex, new suspension, and different axles added. Plus, all of the other components used are the very latest, high quality parts.
So, it really is a 'race ready' machine, thoroughly taste tested by some of the best riders out there!
The specification of the R-One bike includes a custom built (adjustable) frame, seat and footplate, custom built hubs (with oversized bearings x4), lightweight wheels and off-road tyres (x4). It features an hydraulic brake system, the latest disc brakes (x4), 'top of the range' shock absorbers (x4), an independant suspension system, and a self-centring steering damper. It also has a well designed safety harness system to help keep riders in their seat!
